We have established Cultivar in Peru to collaborate with small scale coffee growers. We do this because we believe in the potential of these families to produce excellent qualities. And mostly because we are convinced that quality opens opportunities to equal partnerships in coffee.
Our team of experienced coffee professionals run our warehouses in the coffee regions. We cultivate relationships with farmers across provinces, and support each other in the continuous building of knowledge and experience in quality production and its commercialization. We love to inspire innovation where it makes sense and cross-pollinate the learnings of producers and roasters.
Lisanne and Theadros, founders of Cultivar, met each other while working in coffeein 2012. “In between cuppings, we would have endless conversations about sociology, agricultural development, and our own experiences in working with farmers in Latin America. We both believed that specialty coffee could be a good opportunity for small holders, yet it was mostly the coffee elite that had the means to seize it. Some years, and many animated evening discussions with beers later, we sat to write down our plans and bring our thoughts to reality. Cultivar Coffees.”
We have learnt lessons and evolved over the years ever since our start in 2017. The coffee sector is an unstable, always-changing place without simple answers to a problem. To not get stuck in these complexities, we see it’s important to focus on the essence without drifting away from our values.
We believe relationships are at the core of a fruitful business; and relationships are built on a foundation of trust. Trust, we have learned, is built over the years and there are no shortcuts. From start to end it’s about commitment! And Cultivar is committed to be that partner to both roasters and growers in Peru throughout the years.
Profits are shared and collaborations are created with the core value of equity.
