Why an innovation competition in Peru?

Peru deserves a special competition for innovative coffees because its coffee producers have quickly emerged as one of the world’s top specialty coffee origins. It’s their curiosity, creativity, and drive for
innovation that have set Peruvian growers apart in recent years, and we believe they deserve the global stage of innovation.

Meet the coffee rock stars from Peru! At Cultivar, we aim to highlight the extraordinary work being done across the country and expand the network of ambassadors for Peru’s finest and most innovative coffees.

The competition is named after the traditional Peruvian fermented corn drink and a vibrant cultural movement of art and music

The Chicha Challenge is all about experimentation and showcasing bold, fruity flavors. This is the world's first auction focusing entirely on innovation in coffee processing by farmers all over Peru!
Our Coffees
Selection process

This 2024 season we have received Chicha Challenge samples from farmers from the entire country, from Amazonas, Cajamarca, Pasco, Junín, Cusco and Puno.

The first selection is done by a team of national judges in the cities of Jaén, La Merced and Lima. All the coffees are blindly cupped and scored according to the SCA cupping standards and protocol.

The winners will soon be published on this website, so stay tuned!
